Programmers can be divided into those that build libraries and toolkits, those that know of and use these libraries, and those that mistakenly believe they can build everything themselves.

I don't agree with the author's thesis of different levels of developer. Often what distinguishes the developer of a framework from those who use it is simply time - either experience or the availability of time to implement the feature.
The last thing we need is for more developers to prove that they are "good enough" to develop frameworks; it would be better if more developers improved the existing ones, Hibernate among them.
