There are hundreds of text editors on the market today, and honestly most of them are absolute trash. I know this, because I’m quite confident I’ve tried all of them; I’ve spent 6 years and hundreds of hours installing and puking on crappy text editors on Windows, OS X, and Linux. Without further ado, here are the best for each platform.

Definitely VIM over Emacs. But for GUI editors my preference is: (1) Geany, (2) SciTE, (3) gedit
