Geeks and enthusiasts wearing Wordpress t-shirts, using laptops covered in Data Portability, Microformats and RSS stickers lined up enthusiastically on Friday to purchase a device that is completely proprietary, controlled and wrapped in DRM. The irony was lost on some as they ran home, docked their new devices into a proprietary media player and downloaded closed source applications wrapped in DRM.

Now Microsoft looks less evil when compared to Apple. Apple just got monopoly in one market segment and they started taking hostages.

After months of hype, wait and anxiety the great Apple's century rip-off ever now set in full swing.

Lets be honest here most (99.99999%) users of open source care very little about this kind of stuff. The typical user of the iPhone places much more emphasis on software actually working rather than how it is licensed or whether the company gives back to the community. Apple does a great job at adding value to the end user and pushing aside the underlying technical details. It works who cares how it works is the attitude for most people outside the developer community. This is why MS Office is still largely successful despite all the MS bashing over business practices.
