While there has recently been an increase in the buzz regarding frameworks, design patterns, and MVC architectures, they really are not new concepts. In fact, the MVC design pattern has probably been around longer than a number of the people actively reading this blog.

this is very funny to me because understanding and knowing when to apply design patterns is one of the most important aspects of building software. And I don't know who this guy is, but it seems like he is unknowledgeable to be writing about patterns.

The 'mvc' pattern that is practiced on modern web sites is very different from 'mvc' in smalltalk. I like going into the past of computing as much as anybody, but this perpetuates the general misunderstanding of mvc for web apps -- too many programmers in 2008 don't understand the basics of writing web apps that work, and the mystification of 'mvc' is preventing them from learning.
