JavaOne is around the corner, and you are not sure if you should go, here’s some numbers for you. Last year I did some math to calculate the minimum damage that attending JavaOne may cause to your valet. In my calculations I was assuming registration fee of $2500 (waived for speakers). I did not take into account early bird discounts or any other coupons that could bring the fees down.

Great summary of the costs for an individual. If you're like me, however, then you have to start multiplying by the number of people you're taking out to SFO for a week away form our mainstream work. It really adds up - SFO is an expensive place. Still, I always enjoy the JavaOne conference - seeing old friends and making new ones.
