A study based on Black Duck Software’s Koders.com search engine data shows that the use of the Ruby language has grown significantly in the last four years. According to the Koders.com data, Ruby usage is ahead of dynamic language alternatives such as PHP, Python and Perl, and just behind more entrenched languages such as Visual Basic, C/C++ and C#.

Looks like Koders.com data is worth crap. Ruby popularity is raising for sure, but it's still nowhere near PHP or even Python. It's all wishful thinking. Anyway, this was the most hyped language just a year ago and now it's almost dead quiet. Looks like it's glory days are over before they even started.

Ruby (and all the over-hyped "new" languages) never made a dent into the .net/Java market share. It's just not for the mass market. And all the cool kids are moving on, to the next "hot" language (Scala or whatever). What remains are some hard core Rubyists and the few people that actually finished larger projects using Ruby. Have a look at Google Trends, both for "Ruby language" or "Ruby on Rails". It's a slow decline. I'm not saying Ruby is a bad language, so spare me any flames please. ;)

The raise of Python and the popularity of Django is killing Ruby and Ruby on Rails.,

The rise of Python and popularity of Django is killing Ruby and Ruby on Rails. The problem with Ruby is that it failed to deliver a decent execution model. And of course, Matz doesn't work at Google ;)
