While Ruby 'is great and stays out of the developers way' , Ruby is missing features that would make it takeoff into the enterprise. The Ruby culture is very web2.0ish and open sourcey, but is mising serious security, eis integration, and distributable features. Furthermore there are no 'vendor giants' like IBM, Oracle, Redhat, or VMWare that offer products and middleware for Ruby. It's a chicken or egg problem, but for right now Ruby will remain a hobby or startup language.
