Can you say Jakarta Commons?
:-) that's reason enough not to switch
The open source ecosystem around java means you don't have to write as much code.
Besides Jakarta, there's Hibernate, iBatis, Spring, SiteMesh, OSCache, Ehcache, etc.... ad nauseum.
Then, the variety of choice for servers, BEA, Tomcat, Websphere, Glassfish, Jetty.
The main advantage with Java isn't the language. It's all the choices we have because of the ecosystem around it.
side note: I agree with Milton, Linux is a much better platform for development. Regardless of my preference, you can develop Java on YOUR favorite platform. On my team at work, 2 devs use Macs, 4 Linux and 2 Windows; everybody is happy.
