I feel suspicious of "what makes a good programmer" lists because they inevitably coincide with the qualities of their authors. It's a vanity exercise. It's not that these lists are wrong, but they are often blind to diversity. The qualities that make a good programmer are different in different contexts. Finding the common denominator is not for everyone. There is more than one way to be a good programmer, and is this multiplicity what makes the road to excellence so interesting.
