Still doing that kind of questions in an interview?. I think the best approach is to say to the candidate create a small solution with a mock or something, The practice is the key not the theory because they can cheat anytime.

What is the of purpose of asking about finalization? you should never use close() method directly, but put them in finalize()?

Many of these questions are far too academic, and knowing the answers won't make you a better programmer. You want to test their analytic ability -- the ability to solve a problem, and check the quality/style of their solution (i.e; OO, best practices, etc..)
