It is true that Ubuntu/Server has many qualities, but its popularity is also due the relative weaknesses of the other big 3: Debian, RH and Opensuse.
Just to give an idea, (today is 2010/March/13) RH, a OS company, doesn't have a working site: it says "redhat.com will be back soon."
