I, as a developer and user of GPL source code only have an obligation to the people who receive the software, whom I have a distribution relationship with. And there's nothing that says I have to enter in to that relationship with anyone "for free". When I sell the software to a customer, I have an obligation to make the source available to the customer, and only that customer, and that customer can then run off and do with it whatever they wish.

Interesting approach dzonelurker, linking to a gem of a comment, giving it the spotlight it deserves instead of being buried in the flood of other comments.

Errrh...
Did anyone say something different...?
However the results would very often end up with that the code would be publicly available since most customers when their apps is GPL in the first place would understand the value of giving that code away for others to use, extend and so on since those extensions and modifications would then again be beneficial to the "original customer"...
But you are of course right and nobody in the "GPL Business" I know about are claiming anything else...
You submitting this link sounds like you think "everybody" in the GPL business (which you have obviously a major concern in regards to, at least if I'm to interpret your previous comments, submissions and votes) are trying to lie by saying things not true about the GPL...
This is not true!
In fact I'll even RAISE the bar by further giving you truths about GPL which is that if you only develop in-house SW which nobody not directly employed by only your employer (no Manpower rentals here though) you can even use GPL without having to distribute the source. Now how's that for "FUD"...?
Fact is GPL is here to stay, it's the only viable business model to run an Open Source company on top of and it is *the* proven model to run huge scale Open Source projects on top of. (think in terms of Linux)
If you want to spend time developing "free beer" stuff then you are free to work without getting paid for the Mac OS team or the Windows BSD Socket team or whatever else you wish. If you only want to consume things for free without having to pay then USSR is THAT way...!

What do you pay for consuming the knowledge and culture accumulated within the last 2500 years? Your philosophy: free beer for me but not for others.
