In software development (and other paradigms), there is the notion of a "maturity model", where level zero reflects complete ignorance of the metric being measured, followed by multiple levels of increased acknowledgement and performance of the desired metric. It occurs to me that no one has thought of defining a maturity model for unit testing, separate from software testing in general. This article is an attempt to define this scale. I write this from the context of Java development, but these levels will easily apply to other programming languages.
