How many times, after proceeding with this shameful process, have you received an email containing your password? No, not a link to change your password or questions about your account that only you would know (that would eventually allow you in), your actual password in plain text!

As long as people still argue against salted hashes (or other secure mechanisms), we should continue to have the argument.

You have a point dragmire. I've revised the post to clear the confusion. I over-used "encryption" because I think more people understand that concept.

I personally like getting an email alerting me of my username and password. Often times I sign up for something and can't remember what I used for my username/password. I know it's "not safe" but it's nice to have.
