Agreed, XSLT sucks ! But just because the format is in XSL doesn't mean you have to actually template in XSL. I use velocity and XSL-FO and it works awesome.

XSL-FO and Apache FOP is one of the best frameworks I used in the last 5 years, creative & flexible. Building PDFs this way is awesome and Apache FOP was a great project. But does anyone know if Apache is really moving forward with FOP? It's really been slow for a long time.
