If you're looking for JavaScript alternatives, also consider: CoffeeScript ( and Google's Dart language ( Both can protect you from JavaScript's many pitfalls. Both are more mature than TypeScript. Also, keep in mind that TypeScript comes from Microsoft, which is historically against web-standards and web apps. Microsoft is the main reason earlier attempts to fix JavaScript flaws failed. Easier web app programming is contrary to Microsoft's economic interests. Web apps decrease the value of the Windows OS and native Windows apps. Therefore, you cannot depend upon Microsoft's long-term support of TypeScript. Don't be surprised if Microsoft tries to change TypeScript into a language that only benefits Windows OS and Windows Phone etc.
