Creating a site like Digg mini series, using Drupal an open source content management system. The series shows how you can expand Drupal to work like Digg and gives ideas for modifications to the system.

http://pligg.com/ is more inline with digg, and right out of the box.

Pling is great if all you want is an out and out digg clone, but has very limited features, the advantage of using Drupal is all the other things that can be done, see part 2 of the article for some ideas.

However if all you want is an exact copy of Digg then yes Pling is the way to go
