We actually wrote a service of our own to do it. We wanted to keep multiple sizes and formats of the screenshot we captured, and we wanted to support all the major browser features. Ironically, since we moved dzone to a system running 64-bit Ubuntu linux we have not been able to use Flash. Adobe's Flash support on Linux is way below where it should be, although we hold out hope for the future. They claim to have Flash 9 coming for Linux next year. Better late than never, I guess.

Might only be in a couple of weeks for Flash 9 on Linux... Beta at least... http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/2006/10/chatter.html

Here's a nice little tool if you want to set up your own server. Maybe run it locally with a port open to your website?

I have been wondering about this since I did a article on pligg and saw many of the sites using it had webshots like dzones.
