Ahhhh, so "lean" means "no fat!" This will never fly at most corporations, and definitely not in government operations. They'll give it lip service, but somehow I suspect there'll be plenty of fat left over when they finish.

I'll agree on management. It's amazing that the waterfall tradition has lasted this long. Businesses simply can't function in this model; you spend months just to use the book generated by the requirements team as a coffee mat.
I'm looking forward towards any non-ponytail methodology that ads value and speed in the definition/development process.

The company I work for has a fairly large IT department to support manufacturing. The manufacturing process is extremelly lean, and we are always looking for ways to make further improvements. For some reason though these concepts have not transferred over to IT.
