A few weeks ago I saw an interesting post on Dzone about what you shouldn't do in Python. (See the article here.) This got me thinking about what features/types of code/practices should be avoided in ColdFusion. Some are obvious - for example, not using deprecated code. Did you know that CFML Reference guide contains a list of deprecated code for both tags and functions? Also listed are obsolete tags and functions. These functions/tags won't work at all in ColdFusion 8.

How about everything?

Coldfusion and Cobol both had their peak around '99-2000, with both the explosion of .COM jobs and the Y2k rewrites.

Now if you want to get a job, its time to learn something new :)

In the wise words of Adam Lehman:

"ColdFusion was the very first web application server on the market. Our community has been around since the dawn of the internet. We invented this game! ColdFusion developers defined the Rich Internet Application back in 2001 with ColdFusion MX and Flash Remoting. People thought we were crazy, flash wasn't for building applications, it was for stupid web cartoons and skip intros. Now, everyone and their mothers are pickung up Flex and sweating our style. The fact is, our community has been defining the web since it's inception and we continue to do so...[non CFers will eventually ask] how the heck did you build that? How did you integrate with all those aspects of the enterprise? How did you do it so damn fast?"

@FlySwat - i started using ColdFusion back with version 1.5 (and by using, i mean gainfully employed using). 11 years later, i'm still gainfully employed using CF (this time with version 7, soon to be 8). the years in between, i've been gainfully employed using all versions in between.

nothing wrong with making a comment... but would be nice to back it up with something. any particular reason you're saying that? i only ask because making such a comment without some facts behind it just seems kinda... well, troll-ish :)
