A little self serving, but any way here it is. "I was contacted by Stacy Doss, who until recently was ranked #19 on the Digg Top Active Users list. 4 Days ago, Stacy tried to log onto Digg only to find out that his account no longer existed"

Digg sucks. Not exactly fresh news. =P
I had an account banned and deleted from Digg after posting 2 comments that people didn't like. I then created a second account, and posted a single comment complaining about the rudeness of the other commentors. They had no reason to delete the second account, as I'd done nothing wrong, but they did. They even banned my IP address.
It's just a broken system... it was fine when it was a smaller site, but with the volume of traffic, the system can't work. For instance, I've posted tons of links that haven't ever seen the light of day. Not a single Digg, and by checking my web server logs, I didn't even get a single hit in 24 hour period. Now that's just pathetic.
I've given up on Digg entirely.

Agreed Lowell, you might enjoy my comments in an interview I did earlier today. http://www.deepjiveinterests.com/2006/11/28/digg-snubs-elite-digger-3monkeys-aka-stacy-doss-goes-on-the-record/

The major issue with Digg is that there are ~5000 stories in the upcoming queue at any given time. That means there are hundreds of pages of results, even if you browse down to a category. Nobody is going to click through 100 pages worth of links to find good stories.
This is why the "Friends" feature has completely taken over. The only way to get something on the front page is if one of the popular users submits it, because everybody uses the friends feature to find interesting links, rather than digging through 100 pages of links. Digg isn't "gamed", it's a broken system.
Even here on dzone, there will be quality links on the 5th page of the upcoming links queue that never see the light of day.

dzone isn't nearly the size of Digg. I've only once submitted a link to dzone. It was on a sunday night and only a few hours later it already showed up in my rss feed.
Lowell Heddings replied ago:
That was exactly my point... dzone's system works right now because the volume of links submitted is a lot smaller.
If dzone was to double in size, it would potentially start to have the same problems without fixing the underlying issue... which is why I voted for this article, to spark some discussion on the topic.

br68226 reported this link as non-developer on 11/28/2006 @ 04:16:44
This isn't relevant to developer topics - it's someone bitching about loosing their account on digg.

It's also a good chance to discuss what works and what doesn't on social link sites such as dzone.
Further, 3monkeys is part of the community here on dzone. Just look over to the right for the "Thanks to 3monkeys" blog link.
