AJAX is a strategy for giving you web pages in a jiffy. I can't but help thinking that Jesse James Garrett, credited with being the brain behind AJAX, spent a lot of time at the best fast food outlets. Why? Because the AJAX strategy is uncannily similar to that used in a quality fast food establishment.

Correction: Jesse James Garrett is a writer who coined the term AJAX. He is NOT credited with being the brain behind AJAX. AJAX existed long before there was a catchy acronym, and there were many brains behind it, most from (gasp) Microsoft, actually.

OK, more corrections. AJAX request/response are not XML-only, that's first, and I saw very small number of sites where it prefetched content, that's second. In majority of times AJAX acts on user demand, when some UI event occurs, like mouse click.
