I was reading a few DeveloperWorks articles the other day - interviews of architects on the next big things and trends in Software and it suddenly hit me - I really do love being a Software Architect

I love being a software architect, when I'm allowed to BE a software architect, but more often than not I'm forced to be a project manager and somehow getting sucked into doing marketing crap, once the project has begun, so instead of mentoring junior developers, and guiding senior developers, I'm tracking milestones, running down line items and revising marketing material.

This sounds like a recurring theme in the field.
I'm too am, nominally, a software architect. It says so on my business cards and in all the company literature. But I'm really a glorified developer. A code with privileges, if you will. I'm at the opposite end from the "astronaut architect", I can barely see the forest for the trees.
This is definitely a role that has definition issues.
