Java is an awesome language. I'd forgotten how wonderful it is, until I started coding in other languages and environments. Java does not face the innovators dillema, it's stronger than it's ever been before!

So Java is great because it is better when compared to PHP? I've never really developed in PHP, but from what I've heard, its basically an ultra-simplistic language designed for non-programmers to quickly create wep apps. Not exactly a fair comparison if you ask me. And the main problems he mentions (crappy documentation and little tool support) are fairly specific to the fact that PHP is a fairly young language. Why not compare it to a more mature and powerful language like Python or Ruby (both of which are actually older than Java)?

Good thing we're not relying on your analysis of PHP for anything either :)
I just disagree with your statement about PHP being an "ultra-simplistic language designed for non-programmers."

"And the main problems he mentions (crappy documentation and little tool support) are fairly specific to the fact that PHP is a fairly young language." don't you even look at php manual? (http://www.php.net/manual/en/index.php)
So PHP is great for web development :)

I still love Java too, but this post devoid of useful information or thoughtful argument

Though the post might be light on details and information, there is an interesting dialogue going on in the comments section.
