It seems like the trend is on AJAX technologies. We are developing rich client applications using HTML, Java Script, and communicating to the server using XML. Those applications are running inside a browser... it sounds way too much like what the Applets of 1995-96 where promising back then. It feels like a Dejavu.

I believe Swing is a pretty superior toolkit. It has its own set of problems but after the release of Mustang, nothing that I consider to be a deal breaker. Especially since I don't work with multi media a lot.

I guess the scoffers above might realize this as soon as they throw away their free academic versions MS Express or do some actual coding as opposed to those high-productivity screencasts. You know what I am talking about.
