In this short article I’ll be covering what’s new and different in PHP 5. Although version 5 has been released for quite some time, people are still stuck in the previous version. Hopefully you’ll finally migrate after reading this!

Old news to me, but I'm voting it up anyway, as there still seems to be some foot-dragging on upgrading to PHP5 out there, despite its being fully reverse-compatible with nearly all existing PHP4 code with the exception of any that uses the old XMLDOM extension (though porting to the new DOM extension is super easy.) While still maybe not the best language around, PHP5 is a vast improvement over PHP4; I've been using PHP5 at work for a few months and now I'm pretty much ruined for PHP4, and won't go back if I can help it.
