I'm starting to feel old, but I think being able to use these "antiquated" tools is important, and I actually enjoy it. It's been a long time since I've used a big IDE for anything. I think this may be parallel to Charles Petzold's argument that IntelliSense and Visual Studio "rot the brain". Most people I've talked to have disagreed with me on this -- I guess it's not a popular position.

This is exactly why you use the command line to study for the SCJP etc.

they just respond better and are usually more interested
