Let's explore what exactly a rock star developer is. First and foremost, a rock star developer is arrogant. Most believe that they're god's gift to gcc and/or Visual Studio. Rock star programmers tend to equate knowledge of a particular programming language with being a good software engineer, as if somehow knowing the contents of K&R by heart and strutting around the office with one's nose in the air are sufficient prerequisites for producing solid software products.

This guy sounds like he's just ticked at someone. Sure, no one likes the arrogant developer, but it's unfair to say that all rockstar developers are arrogant.

It also has the funniest quote ever 'Debugging is twice as hard as writing the program, so if you write the program as cleverly as you can, by definition, you won't be clever enough to debug it.' I nearly fell of my chair when I read this, totally clueless.

Agreed. That one is going into the quotes file.

The most troubling aspect of this article is that it made the front page. Anyone voting for this article is either responding emotionally to a past experience or simply afraid of good ideas and change. It's not about 'who' is right, it's about 'what' is right. In this industry, if you can't work with a rock star, should you be working at all?

Let me clarify: I do realize some may have voted for this for its entertainment value ;-)

"You're right, it does all come down to the definition." - the writer of the 'article'.
Look, write an article, not a rant based upon a slant of a definition.
