Java programmers around the globe are in a panic today over a Wikileaks press release issued at 8:15am GMT. Wikileaks announced that they will re-release the source code for thousands of Open Source Java projects, making all access modifiers 'public' and all classes and members non-'final'. Agile Java Developer Johnnie Garza of Irvine, CA condemns the move. "They have no right to do this. Open Source does not mean the source is somehow 'open'. That's my code, not theirs. If I make something private, it means that no matter how desperately you need to call it, I should be able to prevent you from doing so, even long after I've gone to the grave." According to the Wikileaks press release, millions of Java source files have been run through a Perl script that removes all 'final' keywords except those required for hacking around the 15-year-old Java language's "fucking embarrassing lack of closures."

To all those who voted this story down. You don't vote it down because you don't like the "idea" of what the article discusses, you vote it down if you don't like the fact that someone shared it.

I thought this story was awesome, so this comment is not about this particular story.

But I disagree with you about your 'vote down' strategy. I actually vote based on the 'idea' of the article (if I agree / disagree with it). Many people share stories about the IPhone, and I don't care about those stories. I don't vote them down because I disagree that DZone should be giving coverage to Apple -- there is a community of users here who appreciate those stories, I let those users vote up / down the article based on its content.

On the other hand, if someone has factually incorrect article about Eclipse, I vote it down because I'm interested in that community.

Anyways, just my voting strategy. It's interesting to see how different people view the voting.

Ha funnny stuff!! I guess Stevey needed the full year to rest his hands from all the typing he had to do to finish his old insanely long posts. Good to see him back.

I voted the story down, not on content or idea, but the simple fact that I come here to get real info, not parodies.

I love the prominent Obama '08 button as it certainly compliments the hilarity of the article's spirit of parody - i.e., two absurdities juxtaposed side-by-side. Helps to reinforce, "hey, this is all just a joke!"

:-)
