Not yet!!! But according to their webcast they want to make NetBeans the best Java IDE. This is a statement not to be taken lightly. Oracle are now investing in three IDEs which are all established in different ways. JDeveloper is Oracle's IDE of choice, I am currently using it in my current project as I am developing for Oracle WebCenter. Oracle is also a strategic developer and board member of the Eclipse foundation. I do not understand what exactly is a strategic developer but I know that JDeveloper is their strategic IDE.

Hunch?, or you have your sources, or a wish?
MCII replied ago:
Sources? dZone, of course: http://www.dzone.com/links/will_netbeans_replace_jdeveloper_as_oracles_strat.html#110669

Y'know MCII, in the last year or so of surfing DZone, I've seen hundreds of comments by you, which is admirable, but I can't remember a single one that was positive. Why don't you just change your username to 'GetOffMyLawn!' and be done with it, you grumpy old man??

"I can't remember a single one that was positive. "
Your memory seems to be very biased. Try autogenic training.

With all due respect, MCII, Daron's not the only one who's noticed that. By the DZone stats, out of your past 15 comments, none were positive, though a couple where at least not overtly antagonistic.
And 1898 down votes to 520 up?
Not that I think you shouldn't have a right to speak your mind. But don't call the rest of us "biased" if we notice.
Have a lot of fun!

Commenting and downvoting bad links is a service for ill-informed people. Do you really want only yeasayers here?
fifthposition replied ago:
where do we determine objectively that you're voting down only "bad" links? by that standard, this is certainly a bad link -- and yet we have 15 voters who apparently thought otherwise. are they all simply ill-informed?
MCII replied ago:
Voting is no substitute for expertise.
Daron replied ago:
Wow, I can feel the arrogance burning off the webpage. Expertise is no substitute for courtesy.
Daron replied ago:
Everyone was inexperienced and ignorant once, including you. For all we know, you might still be! In my experience, the more certain someone is, the less right they are likely to be.

JDeveloper is licensed from the old Borland JBuilder. Eclipse is licensed from IBM. Why wouldn't they take advantage of a product they OWN now? Answer: They will take advantage of it.
gevatron replied ago:
Just as an FYI - while the first couple of JDeveloper version were based on JBuilder, since 2001 JDeveloper doesn't have any more JBuilder code in it - note that there is no borland copyright when you start it anymore.
RawThinkTank replied ago:
That means there will be no netbeans

So what's it use Eclipse?
