No popular language may be as maligned as JavaScript. But its migration to the server side opens the possibility it may become all-pervasive. A look at jQuery, Appcelerator Titanium, Node.js and MongoDB and how they make it possible to write entire cloud-based RESTful applications with AJAX-based front ends and native mobile (iPhone/Android) clients and yet write...entirely in JavaScript. We even have an example application!

JavaFX will win, they are not giving up anytime soon while the processors continue to speed up.
