With the arrival of the API java.util.concurrent in JDK 5, concurrent programming is available to everyone. Previously, it was:
* be an expert on low-level APIs and be ready for some sleepless nights to develop the system,
* or turn to J2EE application servers and their implementation JMS and EJB Message Driven Bean. In this case, the heaviness of the JMS API and the constraints of persistence and transaction (default) JMS servers will wreak havoc in the end the use of therapies and competitors.

umm, concurrent programming has been available always, why say only 1.5
there is just more tools now
