I wrote a recent article the other day on how Google has decided NOT to use XML for a recent project they open sourced. I received a LOT of very opinionated responses to that post. Unfortunately every one was from a complete MORON.

XML only sucks when developers make it suck. Is XML always the right choice, hell no. Every single technique and technology, when overused and over-hyped, reaches the masses it then becomes the target of "it sucks" thinking. Just wait, the Annotation boat is sailing, everyone's on board, 2 years from now, it will be Annotations suck because of bloat, classes that look like Annotation hell and every framework builder creating common annotation like: @Inject. All I am saying is keep it simple, don't over use any one technology or technique, mix it up baby and balance your design. XML, JSON & YAML all have a place in any good developers toolbox, learn to mash your tools up and stop the re-inventing the wheel syndrome.
