This tutorial helps you get started on OpenLaszlo, which is an open source platform for creating zero-install web applications with the user-interface capabilities of desktop client software. OpenLaszlo programs are written in XML and JavaScript and transparently compiled to Flash.

saw these guys a couple years ago at a very impressive demonstration at linux world and got hooked

you can't do some of the things you can do in raw flash because laszlo's very "widget" oriented, but you can do some very slick stuff VERY quickly

so when marketing comes up and bugs you about wanting something "dynamic" and "in the now" you can crank out a pretty fancy UI and wow em enough to make them go away.

Nothing laszlo does really makes a web app work better, but it sure looks better, basically the new homepage of yahoo, but in flash instead of "ajax"

It does make a web application look better but it's too slow to load.
