Can't see why this is worse than some other mainstream languages where I have to create three different file related objects just to read the contents of a file. And, yes, I write php at my spare time, and that other language at work. And I like them both.

What's the problem? The variable names could be a little better.. but that works. Variable juggling is God's gift to man - embrace it.

What if that was the only thing he wanted to use out of that whole array. All the person is doing is taking the one element, destroying the array to make a simple string variable. I see it as a simple memory optimization trick.

Remind me never to show him any of the PIC programming I've had to do in the past.

What is most hilarious is that in his "criticism" he uses a word that doesn't exist - jem.

If I'd known it was ok to submit 1-liner code WTF's, I'd be a top-submitter...
